Experimenting with version 2.71 and HTC X750

Postby Newbie11 on Sat Dec 13, 2008 4:01 am

Hi,

I am a newbie to AGEphone, but during the few hours I played with it I have got further than with several other softphone clients (no names). Great job in general.

So far two problems that could be crucial (at least for my decision to go with AGEphone):

1. Noise cancellation - since X7510 calls go through speakers and the latter are very close to the mike, the noise on the other end of the line is considerable. It is alleviated somewhat by a wired headset, but who wants to be wired to X7510? This brings me immediately to the related problem - Bluetooth as a replacement for the wire.

2. Bluetooth activation was suggested to be resolved by BTAudioOn and BTAudioOff. I have tried it, and didn't get to the Off stage even ;-)
The problem on X750 (at least) is that BTAudioOn activates the voice dialer and after a few second (probably Voice Dialer does it) the BT switches off. On another forum (an old post of 2005 or so) somewone suggested to edit a registry entry launchapenable, setting it to 0. It may work, but then one wouldn't be able to use the voice dialer, which will preclude me from using my car etc.

It will be very nice to have a solution or, at least, a workaround that will allow to use BT headset for both purposes. Again, AGEphone is too good to let go...

Thanks in advance for any idea.

Oh, and not to forget - I am using Callcentric, defined it manually in AGEphone with no troubles at all.

Hello Newbie11 and welcome to the forums! I'm glad to hear that you didn't have any major problems with AGEphone Mobile so far and liked the softphone. As for your suggestions:

1. The X7510 is unfortunately not really built for telephony because of the missing internal speaker. Instead of noise cancellation you would rather need echo cancellation and while AGEphone Mobile 2 will offer the former in a later version, echo cancellation is a difficult subject. It has to be either very adaptive (and CPU intensive) or optimized for a specific model. As AGEphone Mobile is intended to run on all WM5 and 6 devices neither way seems appropriate to us. If we are to implement echo cancellation the solution has to be highly efficient, adaptive and not too expensive. There are companies that specialize only in noise and echo cancellation solutions that charge you an arm and a leg to use their technology. In short: Don't keep your fingers crossed for EC in AGEphone Mobile 2 anytime soon. Your only real option for the X7510 is a wired or BT headset.

2. If "BTAudioToggle" does not work for you because of your voice command software there previously was no way to have it both. I read today from a user on the XDA-Developer forums who had a gripe with that and wrote his own solution. You can find his utility at the top of this thread.

I'm sorry we can't do more about the echo problem at this point and hope that my suggestion under 2. helps you at least to get the BT headset running with your X7510 :)

Hi Michael,

Many thanks for your corteous reply. Your advice on the bagctrl.exe works like a dream, and in fact I don't have to wait now for any echo cancellation solution, which (and I totally agree with you here) is an unjustified burden for Agephone.

Unfortunately, after some additional testing I have encountered a totally different problem, but I shall look closer into the bugs reporting section before I report it.

Thanks again and best wishes.

I'm glad to hear it's working! As bagctrl.exe is really new it's good to get back some reports that it does its job just fine on other devices. As for your bug, don't hesitate to ask in the other forum if something is wrong with AM! We still have a long way to go with the softphone and appreciate all input :)

Why other devices?
My device (the bagctrl was designed to) is X7501...

My bad! I completely overlooked what device you are using and wrote it for. It remains to be seen then if your solution works on other devices. Do you think there might be problems?
