Problems using Ageet software with an HTC diamond and HTC HD

Postby Flashhh! on Tue Oct 21, 2008 9:21 am

Hello, Im very interisting in your product to use in an HTC Diamond, I download the trial but I have problems in sound that I cant fix. I tried a lot of soft before Ageet and the only taht works for me was sjphone but sjphone use a lot of CPU and when is active I cant do nothing, only use sjphone... So I start using your trial and use too more less CPU than sjphone, the problem is that the sound is too chopy, when I say chopy is say that the person that I call hear my voice cut. I used voipbuster and voxalot (I config it) and I have the same problems with both. I test it also in diferent internet places (my house, my office, Cyber Bar...etc, so its not a provider problem)
So I tried a lot of things: If I use the audio packet size 10 and I call him I hear well but the the other person hear my voice cut/choopy. If he call me HE hear me well and I hear cut/chopy. If I use 20 He hear me well but I hear too bad (cut/chopy)
I also try to change the codec in sipd.conf to MediaTypes=8 0 3 101 but the problems in sound still there.
I also put "OutBufferCnt=4" and I have a litle best sound but still choopy and cut the voice, then I use "OutBufferCnt=5" with bad results.

I dont know what more do, I need help how to solve the problem please.

PD: The best result was using Audio packet size 10, OutBufferCnt=4 and MediaTypes=8 0 3 101 , I hear EXELENT but the other person (I called him) hear me to bad (the voice cut/chopy). And if we use Audio packet size 20, OutBufferCnt=4 and MediaTypes=8 0 3 101 we can speak but both of us hear chopy.

Im again. I just read this post: http://ageet.freeforums.org/works-both-incoming-and-outgoing-but-unusable-for-business-t62.html and the problem that I tried to describe in my last post is practically the same problem of the user jocker. He said: "... we compared both the laptop and the PDA by putting them side by side on the same WiFi network at the office. The PDA was running AgePhone Mobile (your latest version 10102008) and the laptop was running X-Lite. The laptop communication is perfect and reliable all the time. The PDA communication was again inconsistent meaning crackling/interrupted sounds showed up here and there no matter what settings we used."

Well I did similar test using the old sjphone on my HTC Touch Diamond and then testing with AgePhone Mobile 2.7 also in the same HTC Touch Diamond in the same place calling to the same party, and also testing calling to diferent partys (always using Voxalot and then with Voipbuster).
With sjphone (using default setings) I didnt have any problems (the only and the old problem is that sjphone take incredible cpu usage and like I said before... when you are using sjphone you cant do any other thing with your PDA), but with AgePhone Mobile 2.7 I have or the other party have crackling/interrupted voice, but is incredible light and friendly comparing with sjphone.

Like I said in my last post I tested a lot of changes in the config but the sound was always crackling/interrupted like a cut voice every 0.5 seconds for one or both party's (also I tested with my voice mail and calling to numbers that were offline and hearing the operator disc). I have no doubt about the problem because I test it in my office, in my house and in places that have diferent internet providers, with sjphone I dont have problems and with AgePhone yes.
I forgot to say that I ALWAYS tested using WI-FI.

Remember that I said in my last post that were ocasions with AgePhone using a specifically config that one party didnt have any problem and the conversation was Exelent for that party (beating sjphone audio quality) but the problem is that the other party hear all crackling/interrupted cuting voice.

Im hopeful that AgePhone will solve this problem (or may be Im making something wrong??) because YOU have the only soft for smartphones and PDAs that actually is "practically" working on this days and Im sure that a lot of people need something like this.
Please if you have any ideas how to solve this problem I will be glad to buy the soft!! :)

First off, did you try other packet sizes already? 30, 40 or 50 ms may actually do the trick. Also, changing the buffer sizes in the "sipd.conf" is not necessary anymore as of version 2.7. You can just change them in the audio options. 120 or 180 ms are probably good choices. Apart from that, we have reports of issues with the Diamond here in Japan and it may be that there are problems with other versions as well. Please let me know if the above suggestions don't help and I will look into this further.

Yes I tested packet sizes 30, 40 and 50 ms and also 120ms 180ms and also more and I still have the same problem. I dont want to talk more about sjphone but Its very strange thaht and old program like sjphone works well for me in the Diamond... (I used before in my Dell Axim x51v with very good results..). May be I can test Ageet soft in the Dell Axim and test If I have the same problem..

If you can test it on the Axim X50v that would be great because as committed as we are to the WM Platform, we can't test AGEphone Mobile on more than but a few devices here. I am using the program a lot on my Sharp EM-ONE and HTC Universal and didn't experience any crackling or interrupted sound with either of the two. For many other devices we can only rely on user input and if something is not working correctly with your HTC Diamond we'll look into it :)

Ok I will try to test the Axim x51v with AGEphone Mobile tomorrow. Also I will try to make a video so you will hear and see the problem :)

I can confirm, that on HTC Universal and HTC X7500 and x7510, Agephone works with no audio problems. However I also wanted to install it on HTC Dimond (I actually aqired a licence for my friend, who owns Dimond), and now I have a problem, as it is unusable. It is chopy on the other side and with strange hi pitch bacground noisy, kind of echo, not loud but annoing. I have tested all combinations of Audio Packet sizees and Playback buffer. It seems that 30 and 240 is best for me, but this gives good audio on my side, but poore audio on the other side, anyway (in Dimond or in Keiser). There is no difference, how low, my speaker is set on.
Then I installed it on my wife's HTC Keiser/TYNT II. Here the audio is only with this strange background noisy.
In my X7510 and in my old Universal, there is no problem at all. I use my X7510 mostly with stereo BT headset, but in Universal it works perfect without any headset, just using internal speakers.
The problem I have with the version 2.7x ist that now the "Enter" hardware button is attached to "decline" softbutton. In version 2.6x it was attached to "Accept" softbutton. This helped me answer the call without waking up the screen and looking for Accept softbutton on it. "Enter" hardbutton is usualy the main button in joistick or direction buttons, and many new devices do not have function hard buttons, as it used to be in old devices.

I'm sorry for overlooking your post for such a long time! It was not on purpose and I hope that we can sort out your and your friend's / wife's problems. When it comes to the audio quality issues, these are hard to resolve as they are pretty rare and we never had consistent reports for any device. Could you try to capture the audio and send us a sample? Also, it would be good to have the simple log file (Menu - About - More - Save). Ad for the enter button, we have to look into this and make a decision again how to handle this. You are right about the soft-buttons in any case: It's really a pity that they are not independent buttons anymore on many devices these days.

Hello Im Again. Now I change my last HTC Diamond and now I Have the new HTC HD. I just installed the last 2.75 version on my HTC HD and I have the same problems that I had before in my last HTC Diamond.... "Like I said in my last post I tested a lot of changes in the config but the sound was always crackling/interrupted like a cut voice every 0.5 seconds for one or both party's (also I tested with my voice mail and calling to numbers that were offline and hearing the operator disc). I have no doubt about the problem because I test it in my office, in my house and in places that have diferent internet providers." AGAIN with the old Sjphone software I dont have problems and with AgePhone yes.
I thought that the sound problems with HTC devices were solved with 2.75 but I was wrong :(.
Sorry Im not a software expert, but I dont understand why an old soft like Sjphone is still working very well with new devices, and a modern soft like Agephone mobile no....
Its so dificult to solve the sound problems in HTC HD?

I agree with you that our softphone should not perform any worse than SJphone. What makes this so difficult is that we own neither the HTC Touch Diamond nor the HTC Touch HD to test AGEphone Mobile which makes it hard (if not impossible) to verify any device specific bugs. Other Diamond / HD owners not reporting the same choppiness doesn't make the problem better either. As I can see from the thread we have tested many things already and there is little that we can still try. If possible, could you sign up with www.nonoh.net and make a (free) test call? The Betamax providers are so generic that if the problem persists we can almost certainly assume a device or ROM specific problem. If on the other hand you get good audio quality we have to take a closer look at your VoIP provider. Please provide me with the extended log in that case so that we can take a closer look at what is going on.

Well, my brother have an HTC Diamond and have the same problem than me and his HTC Diamond have different ROM than mine.

I dont think that the problem is with devices or ROM because we have the same problems with Two HTC Diamonds (my brother and mine) and one HTC HD, all of them have different ROMs, anyway if the problem is with devices or ROM why all the devices work well with Sjphone? Im sure that the problem is with Agephone soft.

Again, the problem is not with voip providers... (we tested using Voxalot and Voipbuster with same problems with both), and again: why using Sjphone using Voxalot and Voipbuster works well?

The sound problem is with Agephone using HTC HD and HTC Diamond. I will send you the log files! and I will try to make a video using Sjphone and Agephone using same provider and calling to the same user location so you can see/hear the problem that Im talking about.

PRACTICALLY SOLVE!!!!! USING version 2.75 after testing with my girlfriend a lot of differents settings and providers I found that the best settings for the HTC HD and HTC Diamond are Playback Buffer 360ms and Record Buffer 120ms, DTMF Method RFC2833, Audio Pcket Size 20. Both of us hear without the chopy sound!!.This config works for all the voip providers that we tested. Now we are trying to solve one problem because I can call her but she cant call me... may be something with the firewall or with the soft (it says "port restricted nat" "not registered to sip server"), because she have a sip telephone and Im using Agephonemobile.

No need to take a video - recording the calls will do! Just go to page 2 of the audio settings and select the corresponding options. As for your solution, I am not sure if setting the buffer to 360 ms is really solving the problem in a good way as it introduces a lot of delay! I take it that you were using WiFi for all your tests like you described in your post above? And as for people not being able to call you, if you get "Not registered to SIP server" that is only natural. Please check your provider settings and make sure that there is a checkmark set in front of the provider name. The "Port restricted NAT" is perfectly fine and does not keep AGEphone Mobile from registering with your SIP server.

And one more thing: Does the quality go down a lot if you set the Playback Buffer to 180 while leaving the Record Buffer at 120 ms? From what I have heard recently it seems that the latter value was the one that we set to low in recent version and that caused a lot of trouble especially on the receiving end. Please let me know if setting the buffers like that still produces good quality.
